Εκλογές ICC: Προβλήματα στο ICC σχετικά με την αναμόρφωση του Star Broadcast πριν ο Jay Shah να γίνει Πρόεδρος του ICC
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah is slated to become the next ICC Chairman as per reports. Shah is set to complete in the ICC Election later this year. He will have to resign from his BCCI post to take over his ICC duties. In the mean time, the ICC is also staging a huge fight with major Indian broadcaster Star for a potential deal of valuation of around $4.46 billion.
Greg Barclay is set to resign from his post soon. And Jay Shah having already won over the votes from Australia and England is among the favourites to take over the post.
“ICC chair Greg Barclay confirmed to the board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November. Barclay was appointed as the independent ICC chair in November 2020, before being re-elected in 2022,” an ICC spokesperson said.
“Current directors are now required to put forward nominations for the next chair by 27 August 2024 and if there is more than one candidate, an election will be held with the term of the new chair commencing on 1 December 2024,” he added.

Star keen on renegotiating Broadcast Deal
A shake at the ICC was imminent. The member nations were extremely unhappy with the exorbitant operational costs that took place in the ICC T20 World Cup USA leg. Furthermore, with Star asking for a reduction it’s valuation by nearly half means the ICC will make a hefty loss.
Back in 2022, Star renegotiated it’s broadcast rights in India for all ICC events running from 2024 to 2027. Star claimed that it would go on to sell a portion of their rights to ZeeTV. This in turn would help facilitate Zee’s merger deal with Sony.
But things took a sharp turn when the merger deal collapsed and Zee backed out from the deal. This essentially meant Star being the sole rights holder for the ICC deal and thus paying the entire sum of money. Thus right before Jay Shah’s ascension as ICC Chief sees Star asking for a huge reduction in it’s broadcast deal.
