Despite losing the game, Akash made his case for his return to the Test side with his fiery spell and variations. The pacer credited veteran Mohammed Shami for improving as a red-ball bowler and revealed how valuable inputs from the former helped him in the game.
Shami’s advice to Akash Deep revealed
Speaking after the match, Akash Deep revealed that he had sought advice from Shami as their bowling actions were similar. The pacer had asked the veteran how to move the ball out while bowling around the wicket. Shami’s advice paid off for Akash Deep as he went on wreak havoc on the batters, leaving them puzzled with his deliveries.
“I take input from him (Shami) because our bowling actions are quite similar. I asked him how to move the ball out while bowling from around the wicket to a left-hander. Shami told me not to force it, as it would happen naturally,” Akash said.

His impressive performance in the opening game of Duleep Trophy cemented his return to the Test side. Akash Deep had made his Test debut earlier this year in February in IND vs ENG series. The pacer will now bowl alongside veterans Jasprit Bumrah & Mohammad Siraj, and surprise pick Yash Dayal in IND vs BAN series.

Akash Deep wasted no time in impressing the selectors with his variations in the Duleep Trophy opener. In the 1st innings, he grabbed four wickets which included big names including Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan.
The pacer went on to better himself in the second innings, picking up a five-wicket haul to take his tally to 9. Akash Deep will now hope to impress in IND vs BAN series.
