Bangladesh’s upcoming tour to Pakistan is likely to be hindered by the fresh rounds of violence that has gripped the nation. Bangladesh are expected to arrive in Pakistan on August 17 where they will play a two-match Test series commencing from August 21. However, the recent developments in Bangladesh cast aspersions on the possibility of the series.
Will Bangladesh tour Pakistan successfully?
Not even cricketers were spared as a fresh round of violent protests broke out in Bangladesh over the last two days. Politician-cum-cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza and batter Litton Das’ houses were set on fire by angry protesters, as per reports.
A Bangladesh media report stated that Shakib al Hasan, who is currently in Canada taking part in the GT20, spoke to Mortaza over the phone to enquire about the situation.
Bangladesh A tour postponed
Further, the departure of the Bangladesh A team to Pakistan has been delayed and the series has been postponed. The players were to leave for Pakistan on Monday but were forced to abort at the last minute after the airport was shut down for over 6 hours.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued a statement saying that the Bangladesh A tour to Pakistan was postponed by at least 48 hours due to unavoidable circumstances.
The Bangladesh A team are scheduled to play two four-day and three 50-over matches as a part of the preparation for the upcoming series against Pakistan.
