Μόλις πριν από τρεις ημέρες, ο Shreyas Iyer σημείωσε το υπέροχο 142 σε έναν αγώνα υψηλής απόδοσης Ranji Trophy εναντίον της Μαχαράστρα.
A day after being overlooked for the India ‘A’ squad that will tour Australia, Shreyas Iyer’s hopes of making a national comeback have suffered another setback. According to Cricbuzz, the Mumbai batter has been ruled out of his side’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Tripura due to a need for rest.
Toll on Shreyas Iyer, set to miss Tripura clash
Iyer, who recently scored a century against Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, has been playing consistent cricket across various formats. However, the physical toll of playing seven consecutive multi-day games seems to have caught up with him. The seven games include two Buchi Babu Tournament clashes, three in the Duleep Trophy and two in the Ranji Trophy.
BCCI sources have confirmed to Cricbuzz that Iyer will need to rest for at least a week and will, therefore, not feature in Mumbai’s fixture against Tripura, which begins on October 26. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has not announced any replacement for the KKR skipper.

Iyer, who recently scored a century against Maharashtra, had himself hinted at the need for rest, saying, “No matter whatever people think outside, I have to listen to my body because I know the amount of threshold I’ve carried over the last few years and based on that I’ll be taking the right decision and I hope that my team will also back (me).” The rest of the Mumbai squad is set to depart for Agartala on Wednesday morning.
Iyer underwent back surgery last year and has since played in both the Asia Cup and the World Cup. However, he has struggled to cement his place in the Indian team. Despite his recent century, Iyer’s chances of a national comeback seem slim at the moment.
