No one expected the India vs Sri Lanka match to turn into a thriller, but it did. Sri Lanka posted a score of 230 runs in their 50 overs during the 1st ODI. Rohit Sharma’s fiery 50 and then Shreyas Iyer’s promising innings started the game in style for India and nearly took the game away from Sri Lanka. However, things started to change after the 40th over as India lost seven wickets with 27 runs still required.
Despite Shivam Dube’s efforts, Charith Asalanka’s quick two wickets in the last over turned the game into a thriller. When Arshdeep Singh came in to bat with just 1 run needed, he attempted to slog the ball but was unfortunately unsuccessful, leading to a dramatic end where India couldn’t cross the finish line. This isn’t the first time such a situation has occurred; a similar scenario happened just a few years ago
When did India’s last ODI match end in a tie?
The India vs West Indies 2nd ODI game in October 2018 also became a topic of discussion when, despite Virat Kohli’s impressive 157-run knock and India posting a huge total of 321 runs at the Visakhapatnam ground, they were unable to finish the match, resulting in a tie. In that game, apart from Virat Kohli’s top-class century, Shai Hope’s innings of 123 and Shimron Hetmyer’s 94 also took center stage. However, their sensational hitting fell short by just 1 run, bringing West Indies awfully close to their highest successful chase in ODIs.
